Adaptive Clothing
by Ageless Attitudes
In short, dignity is something we (the caregivers) must provide to our charges. A state of being that we must afford them - unconstrained by their immobility, declining degrees of nimbleness, and/or cognizance. And one that life is all too quick to prove - is independent of age.
Dignity, after everything else, is an Ageless Attitude.
In this day and age, so much of our daily lives are centered upon convenience. Drive-thru windows, the newest and fastest cell phones, hybrid technology which allows automobiles to get up to more and more miles to the gallon... we are a culture which insists upon mobility.
And yet that pace and dexterity within our humanity, are things which we must eventually concede as - impermanent.
Ageless Attitudes isn't so much a clothing line that empowers the infirm, as it is one which advocates for the respect of our loved ones - regardless of their age, or their fleetness. It is a collection of garments that is specifically designed to maximize: modesty, comfort, and the ease in dressing and undressing the restricted. Articles of clothing which accept our limitations, challenges, and individual uniqueness - of both the cared-for (and those who care).
Whether accident injury, veteran, or the elderly - we as caregivers know that there are some in this life for whom choice is an elusive (if not lost) commodity. Our garments are hand sewn, hand knitted, in a wide and assorted range of distinguishing colors and prints. Durable, they have faithfully proven their resilience in commercial laundries. And with efforts tailored to do our best to include everyone - many can be adapted to fit the diminutive to the bariatric in stature.
We specialize in enthusiastically sharing that sense of inclusion directly with nursing homes and adult care facilities. Based out of Central New York, Ageless Attitudes has for years championed the idea of resident shopping services throughout the state. For us, visits are about the one-on-one interactions and engaging the residents in a stimulating afternoon of activity. Committed to the moment, we refuse to be distracted by keeping one eye on the event's bottom line - which is yet, only just another example of our belief in: quality's preeminence over quantity.
Ironically, in a world of increasing conveniences, it is a poignant reality that we each know of someone who is bound by inconvenience. Ageless Attitudes would like to be a partner in that journey with you. Whether that's right now - as you're simply browsing through our website, or afterwards - as questions might arise. We are passionate about the clothing we sew and the social activities we cheer on and would welcome the opportunity to be a resource in your quest to define... dignity.
The Clothing Line:
How do the clothes you wear make you feel?
As a caregiver, whether it's for someone suffering with: arthritis, MS, ALS, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, or stroke victim you know that despite their challenges, they each still deserve our respect.
However, often times these conditions necessitate practical clothing style changes. Changes though that do not have to mean an elimination of either choice or self-esteem.
Shoulder Shawl $30.00
Our shoulder shawls are hand knitted with 100% acrylic yarn and are machine washable and dryable. For those with a limited range of motion, they offer a wonderful sweater alternative in providing warmth and are designed to be comfortable and roomy with the cuffs helping to keep the shawl in place throughout the day.
Clothing Protector $15.00
Our clothing protector is hand crafted from reversible quilted fabric and with a snap back closure for convenience. What sets our bib apart from others though is its extremely functional 18" x 36" increased dimensions.
Snap Back Dress $30.00
Made from either cotton or flannel, this garment is a perfect choice for those who are incontinent, wheelchair bound, or have a limited range of motion. With the snap closure in the back, individuals do not necessarily have to sit on the dress itself which provides convenience to caregivers in terms of toileting or changing outfits. Modesty is also afforded the clients in that the hemline is tailored to fall below the knees.
Men's Nightshirt $30.00
Also crafted from either cotton or flannel, the men's nightshirts are a more stylish and masculine alternative to the average hospital gown. We specifically try to find prints and patterns that reflect men's interests (such as the outdoors or military) but include the open back with snap closure to again facilitate care and changing.
Activity Apron $35.00
Activity aprons are design specifically with Alzheimer's patients in mind but can provide motor and sensory stimulation for many individuals. The aprons are one size fits all with several textures and at least five activities incorporated into the front. As with our other offerings, the aprons are machine washable and dryable for laundering convenience. Customized activity suggestions are encouraged.
Walker Bag $10.00
These lined bags with snap closures - are versatile and can be used on: walkers, wheelchairs, or to hold catheter bags.
Poncho $35.00
Especially designed for those confined to a wheelchair, these polar fleece ponchos provide a longer front/shorter back to prevent the uncomfortable bunching of material between the patient and the seat of their chair. Available in a wide assortment of prints, they can be customized with a matching hood and booties.
Slippers $20.00
Available in sizes S - XL, these polar fleece bootie-slippers have a non-skid sole. Ideal for diabetics, these slippers have a 100% cotton/flannel lining and are cut wide at the top to accommodate edematous ankles with elastic bungee closures (for when the swelling recedes).
